12/9/19: Multiple sources – Sudan government and rebels agree new peace roadmap
Sudan’s newly appointed government and rebel leaders agreed on a roadmap aimed at ending war in the country by the end of the year.
According to an agreement seen by AP, talks between the military and pro-democracy movement on securing peace with rebels are due to begin on October 14.
The two sides signed an initial deal after three days of negotiations in Juba, capital of neighboring South Sudan.
Although Sudan’s main rebel groups have observed a ceasefire since Omar Al Bashir’s overthrow, in solidarity with the protest movement, rebels and bandits remain active in western Darfur, South Kordofan and the Blue Nile.
