10/8/2020: Radio Dabanga - Four dead in eastern Sudan tribal clashes
Radio Dabanga’s report on the deadly clashes between the Beni Amer and the Nuba tribes in Port Sudan provides a contextual background on the reasons behind the latest flare-up of violence. The appointment of the civilian governor in South Kordofan, home to the Nuba Mountains, has proven to be unpopular among Nuba tribes across Sudan.
Port Sudan residents told Radio Dabanga that the Nuba held a march in Port Sudan against South Kordofan’s new governor, Hamid El Bashir, who is affiliated with the National Umma Party.
Meanwhile, Nuba living in Khartoum also protested Hamid El Bashir’s appointment, stating that they reject racism.
In addition, in Kassala, the High Council of Beja Nazirs and Independent Chieftainships categorically reject Saleh Ammar as the new governor and demand his replacement. However, the Kassala Central Council of the Forces for Freedom and Change welcomes Ammar.
