SUDAN NEWS ALERT: Sudan Tribune - U.S. calls on Gulf countries provide financial and economic support to Sudan
Sudan Tribune reports that the US Embassy in Khartoum called on Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to support Sudan, following claims that the US asked them to suspend a pledged $3 billion in aid to Sudan because it enhances the military component of the Sudan’s transitional government.
In an email to Sudan Tribune, Keith Hughes, Public Affairs Officer at the US Embassy in Khartoum, wrote "The US fully supports and encourages all of Sudan’s partners, including its Gulf partners, to support the Sudanese people and the civilian-led transitional government."
Sudan Tribune stated that the deputy chairman of Sudan’s ruling sovereign council, Himedti, is accused of being “the UAE’s man.” Himedti has previously called for the end of criticisms for countries that support Sudan.
