Radio Dabanga report that the transitional government has agreed to form a joint team to study the demands of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (al-Hilu faction) for self-determination and a secular state.

Tut Galwak, head of the South Sudanese mediation team, announced that the two sides agreed to form a separate committee on the matters which are “among the most complex negotiation issues.”

The joint committee will also formulate mutual principles for the negotiations. Ammar Daldoum, chairman of the SPLM-N al-Hilu negotiation team, said that the right to self-determination forms his movement’s “negotiation ceiling”, in case the principle of secularism for the state of South Kordofan is rejected.

13/12/2019: Radio Dabanga - Darfur women demand gender balance in Sudan govt

Radio Dabanga reports that leading members of the Darfur Women Group  have called for to participate in peace negotiations, take part in the demobilisation, disarmament, and reconstruction committees, and for women to form 50 percent of representatives in Sudan’s executive and legislative bodies. 

The Darfur Women’s Group , which “represents women of the five states of Darfur with their various political and societal components,” presented the recommendations of their consultative forum to Aisha Mousa, member of Sudan’s Sovereign Council.

The group further demanded individual and collective compensation for the people affected by the civil war that started in February 2003, reconstruction of the many destroyed villages, and the expulsion of new settlers who are currently occupying lands of Darfur displaced and refugees, so that the Darfuris will be able to return to their areas of origin.
