Radio Dabanga reports that tribal violence erupted in Port Sudan, capital of Red Sea state. At least three people were killed and several others were injured.
The clash erupted when a group of eastern Sudanese objected to a “welcome programme” organised by supporters of El Amin Daoud, head of the United Popular Front for Liberation and Justice, who returned to Port Sudan from a year-long exile in France.
At the end of the programme, fighting broke out between the groups, leading to deaths, injuries and the burning of vehicles. in various parts of Port Sudan. The state government announced a curfew in the city.
