Radio Dabanga reports that more than 15 were injured during clashes with police when residents of Abu Naama in Sudan’s Sennar state vented their anger on equipment and facilities of a company allegedly using carcinogens.
The clashes occurred when the residents refused to allow the Kanaf Abu Naama project to resume its activity in the region.
In political developments relating to Sudan’s controversial mining industry, Minister of Energy and Mining, Adil Ibrahim, said his ministry will soon allocate one per cent of revenues from mining companies to the communities in the production areas to contribute to health care, educational programmes, and environmental development.
