SUDAN POLITCAL ALERT: UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs – Sudan Situation Report, 6 Jan 2020
The recent clashes between Massalit and Arab tribes in West Darfur state have displaced some 40,000 people, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
The reported cited estimations by Sudan’s Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) and partners, that approximately 40,000 people have been displaced, including 32,000 from three IDP camps (Krinding 1, 2, and Al-Sultan camp), and the rest from Kreding, Bab Al Jenan, Dar Al-Salam, and Dar Alnaiem.
OCHA said that 54 have been killed and 60 injured in the clashes.
OCHA added that initial assistance was provided by youth groups, national partners, the Zakat Chamber, HAC and the Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) among others, although there is an “urgent” need for sanitation services, “especially latrines.”
