SUDAN NEWS ALERT: Bloomberg - Sudan Will See Benefits From Israeli Meeting, Al-Burhan Says
Bloomberg reports that Abdelfattah al-Burhan, the head of Sudan’s ruling sovereign council, said the benefits of his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be apparent soon.
Al-Burhan told Arab TV stations that the aim of the talks with Netanyahu was to help alleviate Sudan’s economic plight, which he attributed to Sudan’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism by the US.
Al-Burhan also said he had notified Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok ahead of the meeting, which the US arranged. Information Minister Faisal Mohammed Salih previously said the government had not received advance notice.
The Sudanese Professionals Association denounced al-Burhan’s meeting, saying that normalisation with Israel was a serious decision that should not be taken by a transitional government.
