SUDAN INSIGHT ALERT: al-Democrati – National Reconciliation is a “pleasure marriage”,
16/2/2021: al-Democrati – National Reconciliation is a “pleasure marriage”, by Haider Ibrahim Ali
In a criticism of calls from Sudanese Revolutionary Front (SRF) leaders for a ‘National Reconciliation’ with Islamists of Omar al-Bashir’s ousted regime, writer Haider Ibrahim Ali argues that the exclusion of Islamists is a “call for justice” that “provides lessons to deter a repeat of [al-Bashir’s 1989 coup].”
Ali argues that the Islamists did not believe in nationalism when they were in power, citing the Sudanese citizenship granted to Tunisian Islamist Rached Ghannouchi, whereas this “right was denied to some honourable Sudanese who were rendered homeless around the globe”, and Sudanese youth were “deprived from the bounties of their country which were readily given to the members of terrorist groups.”
Ali accused SRF rebel leaders Minni Minnawi and Jibril Ibrahim of seeking the empower the remnants of the ousted regime via “a secret illegal marriage,” adding that their hearts are with al-Bashir’s regime.
