25/12/2019: Radio Dabanga - ‘Security deteriorating rapidly’ in Abyei on Sudan-South Sudan border
Radio Dabanga reports that Clinton Yak, the head of the Abyei civil society, blames the Sudanese government for the rapidly deteriorating security situation in the disputed area of Abyei.
Demanding that the transitional government remove all militias and demilitarise Abyei, Yak
Yak said that more than a dozen people were recently killed by militiamen stationed in Abyei, in recurrent attacks, especially in the north-eastern part of Abyei, which aim to displace indigenous people.
Yak also urged the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) to carry out its responsibilities and implement its mandate to protect civilians in the region.
Noting the conflict of interests in Abyei, Yak further called for the Sudanese and South Sudanese governments to hold a new referendum on the area, under international supervision.
