16/12/2022: Sudan Tribune - Al-Mahdi calls to avoid excluding coup supporters from Sudan’s political process

Sudan Tribune report that the deputy chair of the National Umma Party (NUP), Maryam al-Sadiq al-Mahdi stressed the need to involve the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) in the political framework agreement, despite the support of the two armed groups to the October 25 coup.

She said they should be included as they are signatories to the Juba Peace Agreement which ended Sudan’s wars.

JEM and the SLM call for the framework agreement to be re-negotiated and amended it, based on their stance of preserving the 2019 constitutional declaration which guarantees their participation in the transitional government. In addition, they call for the involvement of their allies of in the FFC Democratic Bloc. The FFC Central Council who signed the framework agreement reject both requests.
