18/5/19: Asharq Al-Awsat – Sudan Communist Party Chief to Asharq Al-Awsat: We Want to Erase Traces of Islamist Rule , by Aidroos Abdulaziz and Mohammed Amin Yassine
Sudanese Communist Party chief Muhammad Mukhtar Al Khatib told Saudi newspaper Asharq Alawsat that “we want to erase everything that the Islamists committed in 30 years.”
Al Khatib said that while they will not be barred from politics, “they will not be part of the transition arrangements that we are aspiring to achieve to meet the expectations of the revolution.”
Al Khatib also called for a transparent investigation into the losses of life and bloodshed at the recent unrest. The military council was blamed for not working on removing the agencies of the former regime interested in stifling the revolt.
Al Khatib also denied that the Communist Party is leading the revolt, stating that it “belongs to the people against injustices.”
